End of Season Invitational Update
Hi Sharks!
I wanted to send a quick update regarding our plans for the end of season meets.
We will continue attending Ponderosa for our highest level athletes as we have done for years, and that meet is running the same as it has. I have attached the time standards below if anyone is curious about those times. The sharks pool is in meters.
For our other meet, we are going to do something different this year and attend the Trinity Summer Classic.
We made the decision to switch to this meet for a couple of reasons. The major factor being that the meet is hosted at the CISD Natatorium, which is right across the street. The meet also runs 2 pools on Sunday for the 11 & Overs, which makes a much faster meet experience for everyone there.
The time standards to get into the meet are slightly confusing as there are 2, a "Gold" and a "Silver" standard. What this means is that more kids get to swim in the meet, and get ribbons. The athletes who qualify with a silver time are only competing with the other athletes who qualified with a silver time, it is the same for the gold athletes. They are scored and awarded medals/ribbons for 1-8 in both categories, so it doubles the number of athletes who receive a medal/ribbon.
The only thing scored together is high point, and silver events award less points than the gold events.
The events will be swam at the same time as each other to keep the meet running smoothly, so the only practical impact of the gold and silver times is on awards and scoring at the end.
A question I have been asked a couple of times is whether or not the racing will be as quality as the racing traditionally is at Allstars. I believe it will be for a couple of reasons.
The Gold time standards are very equivalent to their allstars counterparts, and the cutoff times for all athletes in the meet are still the Ponderosa times. There are big teams like The Woodlands Marlins and Imperial Oaks who host the meet, and will have fast swimmers in attendance who were just off of the ponderosa times, so I am certain there will be good swimming going on.
The meet has a 3 event rule bonus time, which applies to everything except the 100 freestyle. What this means is that any athlete who has 3 times can swim all their other events as long as they have a time in that event that did not come from time trials.
I have attached the meet announcements for both Trinity and Ponderosa, as well as the time standards below.
I know this was a lot of information, please don't hesitate to reach out to [email protected], or you can text me via the remind app with any questions.
CHOMP!
